The ETUC is recruiting a full-time Policy Advisor to work primarily on economic policies. Under the supervision of the ETUC elected team, the advisor will work to develop the ETUC positions on the above-mentioned topic from a worker’s and trade union perspective.

Permanent contract on a full time basis

Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide analysis and advice on Macro Economic Policies such as Fiscal Policy, Monetary Policy and the Macro Economic Policy Mix in general including Structural Reform Policy and coordination of Collective Bargaining strategies;

  • Prepare the ETUC delegation participating in the Macro Economic Dialogue;

  • Organise and play an active role in the Economics and Employment Committee of the ETUC;

  • Play an active role within the team both internally and externally in activities under the European Semester in a timely and appropriate manner;

  • Analyse Commission Communications, European Parliament reports,  Economic and Financial   Affairs Council (ECOFIN) Conclusions etc and draft appropriate ETUC responses;

  • Prepare and participate in the work of internal ETUC committees and working groups in the area of economic  policies and ensure necessary follow up;

  • Represent the ETUC at external events including with representatives from the EU Institutions (Commission, EP, Employment Committee, EESC) to affiliates and other interest groups;

  • Liaise and coordinate with ETUC affiliates on macro-economic  issues;

  • Monitor and prepare appropriate responses to EU developments in the policy areas.

Profile

  • Experience in the trade union movement and/or with European institutions is a necessity;

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the area of macro-economic policy including European economic governance;

  • Knowledge of the Macro Economic Dialogue and the European Semester;

  • Familiarity with the working of the EU Institutions;

  • Excellent written and spoken English with a very good command of a second language, preferably French or vice versa. Other languages would be an asset;

  • Proven track record of demonstrating initiative and delivering results;

  • Excellent drafting skills;

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to coordinate and interact both internally and externally;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

  • Ability to work in an international multicultural environment.

We offer

We offer a competitive salary in category III of our pay scale, and an attractive package of fringe benefits in line with qualifications and experience.  Starting salary of Category III pay scale is 5159 euros gross per month. The successful candidate will be placed on the pay scale in line with experience

The daily work will be undertaken in the ETUC offices in Brussels. Occasional travel may be required.
