E3G is looking for a Programme Manager to provide efficient and effective management of programme and project functions across the organisation. This exciting new role will have key matrix management relationships with the Associate Directors responsible for the programmes and day-to-day delivery partnership relationships with their programme leaders, as well as with our central grant management and finance staff. The Programme Manager will be based in one of our E3G offices in either London, Brussels or Berlin, with a preference for London.

Key responsibilities 

  • Collaboration with Programme and Finance teams to ensure grants are delivered to scope, within budget and to agreed timeframes, prioritising the work that needs to be done against the capacity.

  • Support the development and execution of future programme resourcing, including fundraising, proposal development and funder liaison.

  • Bring best-practice tools and process to support all aspects of the project lifecycle from design and proposal through to delivery and close down and learning.

  • Good people-management skills to build and sustain excellent and supportive working relations with relevant internal and external teams and stakeholders, including E3G operations team, key grant-making bodies and funders as well as other Programme-relevant institutions.

  • Excellent planning expertise (Gantt charts) to ensure strong workplanning approach.

  • Support team coordination for the Programme, including weekly and ad-hoc team meetings, annual strategy planning, tracking of team project time and future recruitment.

  • Manage contracts to ensure all obligations and requirements are strictly met and adhered to.

  • Manage and maintain Programme records, core documents, shared working spaces and administrative databases.

  • Support ad hoc operational and delivery activities, including (but not limited to) setting up meetings, taking minutes, etc.

  • Assist the delivery of Programme outputs, including (but not limited to) analyses, blogs, convenings, events, presentations, reports, and website content.

  • Preparation and presentation of regular reports for internal and external users.

Person Description

The role of the Programme Manager will be to support the management and delivery of multiple grants and project outputs across one or more programme areas. You will ensure that grants are delivered within the scope constraints, quality, and financial and responsible for supporting our programme teams and delivery. Reporting to the Head of Programme Management, you will work with your programme colleagues to embed project discipline and practice leading to support delivery excellence. 

Experience and Skills  

  • At least three/five years’ experience managing organisational programmes and/or international grants, including government grants. 

  • Knowledge of a variety of project management tools, methodologies, and best practice. e.g., and ideally Agile or Prince 2 or similar professional certification. 

  • Budget management experience and/or qualifications, including financial forecasting and spend reporting bringing strong commercial acumen to the team. 

  • Highly organised, with the ability to plan, prioritise, multi-task and meet deadlines. 

  • Adept at presenting clear, accessible work in written form and presenting ideas clearly and credibly with colleagues.   

  • Experience in international environments, particularly working across different cultures and time zones.  

  • Excellent IT skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook etc. 

  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills, additional language skills welcome.  

  • Relevant professional experience in energy, climate or sustainability related field would be an advantage.

  • Yearly process for remuneration review. 

E3G is unable to provide any relocation assistance to candidates who would need to move in order to take up this position. Occasional international travel may be required from time to time. E3G will require candidates to demonstrate that they have the right to live and work in the jurisdiction in which E3G employs them.
