We are looking for a Director of Technology and Digital Innovation to lead the next phase of technological transformation at WeMove Europe. This role will be key in driving innovation across our digital platforms, improving our technical capabilities, and ensuring that we are using the best available tools and technologies to amplify our campaigns, achieve social change, and build a more connected, engaged, and mobilised community.
As the Director of Technology and Digital Innovation, you will oversee the strategic direction, management, and optimisation of our digital infrastructure, ensuring that WeMove Europe’s technology aligns with its campaigning goals, engaging millions of Europeans in meaningful action. You will lead a small team of tech specialists and collaborate closely with our campaigns team. You will ensure that our tech stack supports scalable growth, security, and innovative campaigning tools for social change. We're a small team and we get our hands dirty every day. You'll be responsible for the big picture, but you should also be ready and excited to work on the details to push the boundaries of what is possible for social change.
Develop and execute the organisation’s long-term technical and innovation strategy in line with WeMove Europe’s mission and goals.
Work closely with senior leadership to ensure alignment between technology initiatives and organisational objectives.
Ensure technology supports the organisation’s campaigning, fundraising, and growth initiatives.
Develop and manage the technical budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources while maximizing value for the organisation.
Lead and mentor a small team of developers and tech specialists, fostering a collaborative and agile work environment.
Oversee relationships with third-party vendors, contractors, and consultants negotiating contracts and managing performance to meet the organisation's needs.
Encourage a culture of learning, innovation and development within the tech team, supporting career growth and capacity building.
Oversee and execute the development and maintenance of WeMove Europe’s digital platforms, including campaign tools, website, CRM, and databases.
Collaborate with campaigners, fundraisers, and other departments to identify technical needs and deliver innovative digital solutions.
Innovate new ways to use technology to improve campaign reach, impact, and participation, including through social media tools, online petitions, digital storytelling, and more.
Explore and implement AI-driven tools to improve campaign reach, personalisation, and data analysis.
Ensure all systems are secure, GDPR-compliant, and follow best practices in data protection and cybersecurity. Implement and enforce security protocols across the organisation.
We are on the lookout for a Director of Technology and Digital Innovation who can offer:
Proven experience in a senior technical leadership role, ideally within a campaigning organisation, non-profit, or social enterprise.
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a technical team, manage external contractors, and work cross-functionally within an organisation.
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to craft and communicate a vision, engaging and bringing stakeholders at all levels of the organisation with you.
Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and lead cross-functional teams to resolve them.
A passion for innovation, with a track record of identifying and implementing new technology solutions that drive impact.
Experience managing digital platforms, CRM systems, and campaigning tools (e.g., NationBuilder, Action Network, or similar).
Experience managing data infrastructure and developing web applications. Desirable technical skills include: familiarity with Debian/Linux, application hosting and monitoring (Docker, nginx, CI/CD) and proficiency in Flask/Python, Vue.js, SQL.
Demonstrated interest or experience in applying artificial intelligence or machine learning to campaigning or data analysis as well as an awareness of the ethical implications of AI in campaigning, with a commitment to responsible and transparent use.
Understanding of data protection laws and GDPR compliance in Europe.
A passion for social justice, activism, and European-level policy change.

WeMove Europe is an international campaigning organisation that seeks to build people power to transform Europe on issues that matter _ including climate emergencies, migrant rights, workers rights, better governance and more.
At the centre of what we do are two key beliefs: that people hold the power to drive change, and that the Europe we live in today needs real, deep-rooted transformation so that its politics reflect the needs of people and planet rather than corporations and profit.
When we all take action together we create something bigger than ourselves and build momentum for real political change. That is when politicians start listening to us, when big business feels the pressure, when hope becomes a reality.
While we do our best in sharing high quality job postings, Jobs in Brussels can't guarantee or be made responsible for the content in the postings (e.g. specified deadlines or links).
