UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for people forced to flee their homes because of conflict and persecution. We lead international action to protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. We deliver life-saving assistance, help safeguard fundamental human rights, and develop solutions that ensure people have a safe place called home where they can build a better future. We also work to ensure that stateless people are granted a nationality. We work in over 130 countries, using our expertise to protect and care for millions.
UNHCR’s Representation for EU Affairs, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg and The Netherlands (REUA) is hiring a native Dutch-speaking intern for six months (full-time) starting in September 2023. The intern must meet the administrative criteria set out below and have a perfect command of Dutch, a good command of English and French, and knowledge of and interest in communications, media and social and digital media. Photography, graphic design, video editing and CMS skills are an asset.

Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization, such as international relations, communications, journalism or languages/translation;
Not have immediate relatives (father, mother, brother, or sister) working for UNHCR as a staff member on any contract type or as an affiliate at the time of application.
Drafting a daily press summary covering asylum and migration related items in the Belgian press;
Supporting with the creation of and translating press releases and articles (English and French into Dutch) and uploading them to UNHCR’s Belgium & Luxembourg website;
Supporting with the creation of, translating and uploading content (copy and video) onto UNHCR’s social media accounts covering Belgium & Luxembourg (X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn);
Assisting with the organization and coverage of events;
Assisting with the creation and updating of external publications (e.g. brochures, postcards, posters) and internal reference documents (e.g. media and social media mapping)
General office tasks, administrative and other support to the wider team as needed.
The intern will receive a Food and Local Transportation Allowance (FLTA), up to EUR 1954 per month. The Food and Local Transportation Allowance is provided to non-sponsored interns only. In cases where a sponsored intern receives funding (less than the amount of allowance described above) from the sponsoring institution or another sponsor, UNHCR will pay the difference between this amount and the above allowance, if any.
