Job Description

The Renew Europe Group is seeking to recruit an Accounts Assistant to support its Finance Unit.

The Accounts Assistant fulfils a supranational function within the Renew Europe Group Secretariat. As our Accounts Assistant, you will be responsible for all Chapters in our Group’s budget. You will represent the interests of the Group, be a reliable team member within the Finance Unit, and work closely together with the Head of Unit for Finance.

This role involves carrying out tasks, which include:

  • Undertaking internal control for all Chapters of the Group’s budget, including ex-ante verification, final checks on payments and centralisation of contract, subscriptions, calls for tenders, etc.;

  • Working on the implementation of the Group budget and on monthly statements for specific budget lines (for Authorising Officers);

  • Encoding of invoices concerning (in collaboration with financial assistants);

  • Working on recovery of VAT (preparing of VAT declarations for France, Germany and other Member States) and give assistance to colleagues for questions related to VAT or financial rules;

  • Coordinating calls for tender (both for Group and MEPs); Working on relations with suppliers and service providers;

  • Working with the Group’s accounting system (Navision);

  • Preparing for annual audits and for audits of external auditors;

  • Travelling occasionally to Strasbourg as well as to other European locations.

The post in the Secretariat of the Renew Europe Group requires great availability (for example high frequency of meetings, irregular working hours), flexibility, adaptability to varying workload, as well as an ability to work well in a team in an international and multicultural environment. Suitable candidates must, among other things, be capable of grasping wide-ranging issues, be able to respond rapidly to changing circumstances and communicate effectively.

The Renew Europe Group shares the European Parliament’s efforts in taking reasonable steps towards ensuring a healthy work environment and the general well-being of our staff, by for example, promoting work-life balance measures. Teleworking is currently possible up to two days per week (in one’s place of employment).

Qualifications and Languages required:

In accordance with the terms of Article 5 of the Staff Regulations:

  1. Candidates must have at least a level of education, which corresponds to:

    1. a) post-secondary education attested by a diploma and appropriate professional experience of at least 10 years (fulltime), or

    2. b) a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and appropriate professional experience of at least 11 years (full time) after acquisition of the qualifications specified above.

  2. A thorough knowledge of the following languages: Dutch or French (language 1)

  3. Candidates must also have a thorough knowledge of English

  4. At least 8 years of professional experience (full-time) in accounting, gained in an EU institution, an international organisation or other multi-cultural working environment, whereas at least 3 years of proven experience in the duties of an Accounts Assistant / Accounting Officer.

Additional criteria, which would be an asset:

  1. Professional experience in the European institutions;

  2. Good knowledge of the institutional structure of the EU and its activities and familiarity with the operation of political groups;

  3. Experience in working in an international environment;

  4. A good working knowledge of other languages of the EU.

  5. A good knowledge of the Financial Regulation applicable to the general budget of the Union.
