Pesticide Action Network Europe is looking for a Policy & Campaign Intern

Internship purpose

The internship is focused primarily on supporting PAN Europe’s policy work in 2025 about the toxicity of pesticides used in agriculture. You will be involved in PAN Europe’s daily tasks related to the work carried out by the European Commission, EFSA, the European Parliament, Member States and our different NGO partners and contribute to our goal of reducing the harm caused by pesticides in the EU.

Working with a very motivated team of experts in agriculture, toxicology and policy-making, you will gain valuable knowledge and experience in advocacy, awareness raising, communication activities, toxicology and food systems.

Main tasks

  • Support investigations on the misimplementation of the EU pesticides law;

  • Help coordinating work with PAN members;

  • Collect and summarise scientific and political information;

  • Help writing/disseminating communication material;

  • Contribute to writing policy documents;

  • Support members with lobby materials;

  • Help organising events.

Location

This position is based in Brussels, Belgium. We allow a combination of home and office work (hybrid) but physical presence is mandatory twice per week.

Person Specification

Education and training

  • A degree in Life Sciences or toxicology, Political Sciences, Law or European Affairs (essential);

  • A Master’s degree in a related field (desirable);

Experience & knowledge

  • Demonstrable interest in chemical pollution, environmental issues and/or food systems (essential);

  • Familiarity with relevant legal frameworks (desirable).

Key competences

  • Fluent in English (essential);

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (essential);

  • Ability to work independently and be proactive (essential);

  • Positive attitude and a commitment to working for health and the environment (essential);

  • Knowledge of other EU languages (desirable).

Internship Requirements

Candidates for this internship must have the pre-existing right to work in Belgium and this right must be extended to at least six months from the start date of the internship.

We ask that the intern commits to 5 days per week of work (38 hours), for a 6-month duration.

What we offer

This internship is paid and should ideally start at the end of January 2025. The legal framework under which we hire our interns in Belgium is that of the “Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle”. You can find more details here (available only in FR/NL). You will also receive lunch vouchers at a face value of 8,00 EUR per day, as well as 10 days of paid annual leave (prorated if internship starts half way through the calendar year).

If the successful candidate is interested in staying within the organisation after the end of the internship period, and provided there is sufficient budget and a positive performance review, PAN Europe will consider offering a contract of employment.
