Paid internship under Belgium’s ‘Convention d’Immersion Professionelle’. A sound knowledge of migration laws and policies is required and needs to be paired with strong writing and analytical skills. Following a training on MPG’s research methodology on migration policy and integration indicators, the intern is expected to contribute to the implementation of the Migration Return Policies Index (MIREX) as part of the project:
Finding Agreement in Return (FAIR) which aims to assess various dimensions of return policy including enforcement, legitimacy and its alternatives. The intern will also contribute to the analysis of The Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX), which is the most comprehensive, reliable and cited benchmark for integration policies in Europe. The intern will also be asked to collect and analyze relevant information and data on EU and national migration policies, including desk research and interviews with relevant stakeholders and contribute to other projects conducted by MPG. The intern will gain a comprehensive understanding of the indicator based research and the latest developments in integration policies for migrants in all major areas of life as well as EU member states’ return frameworks.
The selected candidate should ideally be able to start in September, 2024.
Candidates must already be legally resident (or ready to reside) and able to work in Belgium during the term of the internship
Fluency in English and preferably other European languages
Understanding of methods for social research and quantitative analysis
Knowledge and interest in integration and return policies
Familiarity with MIPEX and other MPG indicators and tools
