Duration of contract: 36 months (renewable up to a maximum of 6 years)

WE ARE

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides independent, evidence-based knowledge and science, supporting EU policies to positively impact society.

The current vacancy is with the "Science for Democracy and Evidence-Informed Policy Making" Unit of the Directorate for "Innovation in Science and Policy-Making," which is based in Ispra and Brussels.

The mission of the Unit is to promote evidence-informed, collaborative policymaking and participatory and deliberative democracy in the Commission and the EU; to promote policy impact, knowledge synthesis, collaboration, and citizen engagement within the JRC. This is achieved through research, innovation, guidance, consultancy advice, training, capacity building, and institutional development on collaboration, policymaking, and democratic processes inside the JRC, Commission, and the EU.

We offer an exciting position as Knowledge Management Officer – Science for Policy in the Unit’s sector for Science Advice on Knowledge Sharing, Collaboration, and New Ways of Working.

The role includes contributing to various initiatives linked to improving the Commission’s understanding of and capacity for bringing science into Knowledge Sharing, Collaboration, and New Ways of Working.

This includes contributing to existing projects as well as designing new concepts and practical applications to improve JRC capacity and leadership in this field.

WE PROPOSE

The jobholder will mainly have the following tasks:

  • Contribute to improving and expanding the coverage and reach of the existing Knowledge for Policy platform, including building a strategic vision. The project requires an innovative approach to managing and communicating scientific knowledge via the Knowledge for Policy platform by connecting technology, processes, and people to increase its reach and impact. This includes assisting JRC knowledge services that already publish on the platform to improve their content, and providing guidance for those who would like to migrate.

  • Contribute to the development of a new JRC knowledge synthesis and orchestration strategy in line with the revitalised JRC strategy. This will include initiatives aimed at enhancing the JRC knowledge ecosystem and supporting JRC knowledge services to improve governance, collaboration, and knowledge sharing practices.

  • Contribute to initiatives in collaboration and knowledge sharing, with a focus on improving the impact of the JRC by building relationships with relevant societal stakeholders and organisations.

WE LOOK FOR

We are seeking a Knowledge Management Officer – Knowledge Sharing and Collaboration with the following qualifications:

Essential:

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in at least two of the following areas:

    • Proven experience synthesizing and communicating scientific knowledge for diverse audiences, including policymakers.

    • Proven experience in knowledge management and/or capacity-building; experience in evidence-informed policymaking will be an advantage.

    • Proven experience in gathering/producing scientific evidence to advise the policymaking process, as well as analysing policymaking and community systems.

In addition, the successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Excellent drafting, oral communication, and presentation skills, as the position involves constant interactions with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

  • A good understanding of innovative technology solutions for communication, collaboration, and/or knowledge management. An interest in new disruptive technologies (e.g. Generative AI) would be an asset.

  • Very good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in an international environment.

  • The ability to manage a high workload when necessary and deliver under pressure.

  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written English (C1 level), as the working language is English.

Advantages:

  • A university degree in a relevant field such as psychology, communication science, or related disciplines; a PhD will be considered an advantage.

  • Experience in synthesising multi-disciplinary insights and helping transversal groups to co-create, maintain, and achieve goals and implementation actions.

  • Experience in working in international organisations or in more than one country.

  • The ability to establish networks and communicate with different stakeholders.
