Friends of Europe is looking for a Communications Assistant (Intern)

Friends of Europe is a leading think tank that connects people, stimulates debate and triggers change to create a more inclusive, sustainable and forward-looking Europe. Friends of Europe is recruiting a Communications Assistant for a paid internship, to provide support to its Communications Team. This is a great opportunity to understand the workings of an independent, influential think tank and develop your skills and experience. You will gain an understanding of different communications tools and policy areas, whilst gaining greater in-depth knowledge and expertise in the field. This is an opportunity for self-development and learning, and a chance to contribute to the dissemination of information through social media and other communication channels.

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY INTERNSHIP?

At Friends of Europe, we see traineeships as a way of combining initial full-time experience in the world of work with hands-on training, and that’s why our internships are for those who have recently graduated and are eager to acquire their first experience of working in an organisation. The internship is for a six-month period with a potential of renewal based on performance and available resources at the time.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

  • Editing publications (articles, reports, etc.) in line with our in-house style

  • Identifying and creating visuals for publications and newsletters according to a graphic branding

  • Creating and scheduling content for Friends of Europe’s social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube)

  • Supporting the dissemination of events, including LIVE Tweeting

  • Assisting in updates and uploading content to the Friends of Europe website (WordPress)

  • Assisting in the monitoring and reporting of the organisation’s online performance (social media, media coverage and website stats)

  • Conducting on-the-spot interviews during events

  • Performing administrative tasks such as taking minutes, managing correspondence, and updating our database

  • Researching EU and global policy challenges

  • Additional communication, press, multimedia and other tasks as needed in support of the organisation.

WHAT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU NEED TO HAVE?

Education & Experience

  • Relevant university degree (relating to communications, marketing, creative writing or journalism)

  • Research experience combined with good analytical skills

  • Experience and interest in editing written materials in English

  • Experience and interest in drafting social media posts

Knowledge & skills

  • Fluent English required: written and spoken native-level fluency is a must

  • Excellent knowledge of social media channels, as well as social media management tools and analytics

  • Knowledge of and interest in European and global affairs

  • Added bonus: skills in graphic design, Canva, video editing and/or WordPress

  • A drive to take initiative and go beyond a to-do list

  • Ability to work fast and accurately

  • Time flexibility for occasional early morning and/or evening events (compensation time will be provided accordingly)

WHAT CAN WE OFFER?

  • A six-month internship period starting in April 2023 and based in Brussels

WHO CAN APPLY?

This position is open to nationals of EU/EEA member states or Switzerland, and to non-EU nationals in possession of a valid work permit.

This position is addressed to candidates who have recently graduated and are eager to acquire their first work experience.
