European Partnership for Democracy is looking for a Communications Officer

The Communications Officer reports to the EPD Communications & Events Coordinator. In the daily work of the Communications Officer they will work very closely with other communications and events colleagues, with the EPD research team and Carnegie Europe colleagues working on the European Democracy Hub. This position is specifically responsible for communications and events organised under the European Democracy Hub (EDH) – a joint initiative of EPD and Carnegie Europe.

Duties and responsibilities

Strategic communication

  • Implementing and updating EDH communications strategy along with EPD’s management;

  • Developing a public relations strategy and campaigns for specific events/content produced by the hub;

  • Implement a strategy aimed at developing positive relationships with journalists and key media, academics and the public;

  • Preparing press releases and promotional material;

  • Monitoring communications statistics and analysing EDH communications;

  • Developing and implementing strategic communications campaigns about specific topics if required.

Online communications 

  • Managing the daily communications work of EDH online (website and social media);

  • Regular website management (drafting and posting articles, updating pages, liaising with providers, SEO);

  • Social media strategy & posting;

  • Compiling relevant newsletters;

  • Maintaining an up-to-date contact database in cooperation with other communications colleagues.


  • Proofread content produced within EPD and coordinate with the Communication and EDH team;

  • Managing and scouting/ providing new contacts with external service providers supporting EDH’s communication tasks (e.g. promotional material, typesetting and graphic design of reports);

  • Gathering personal information from EHD authors, including photos, bios, and other materials as requested, and coordinating communications with them on research deliverables;

  • Maintaining long-term, positive relationships with authors;

  • Supporting the design and production of EDH papers for external publication;

  • Developing graphics and short videos for social media;

  • Performing simple video editing if required;

  • Copywriting across digital channels;

  • Staying on top of social media for new ideas and inspiration to keep content fresh and relevant.


  • Support EDH team for events such as conferences, dinners, workshops and other forms of stakeholder dialogues organised under the EDH (approx 10 per year);

  • Supporting other EDH staff with invitations, save-the-dates, contact list management and all the material to be produced ahead of the events.


  • Be the focal point for the communications team for EPD’s research pillar and ensure this pillar is visible in EPD communications. This includes copywriting and creating graphics for the research pillar of EPD;

  • Assisting in the daily functioning of EPD, including administrative and logistical tasks;

  • Supporting the conduct of online and physical events with EPD members, partners in civil society and in the EU institutions (e.g. live tweeting);

  • Providing other kinds of assistance as requested.


  • At least two or more years’ experience as a Communications Officer

  • Proven experience in event organisation

  • Strong interest in and knowledge of the contemporary challenges to democracy

  • Excellent written and spoken English; native speakers are invited to apply first.

  • Excellent written and spoken English;

  • Previous experience in working with the EU institutions is considered an asset;

  • Previous experience in the non-profit sector is also considered an asset.
