Access Now defends and extends the digital rights of people and communities at risk. As a grassroots-to-global organization, we partner with local actors to bring a human rights agenda to the use, development, and governance of digital technologies, and to intervene where technologies adversely impact our human rights. By combining direct technical support, strategic advocacy, grassroots grantmaking, and convenings such as RightsCon, we fight for human rights in the digital age.
The Security Officer is an integral part of the Security and Technology team at Access Now. Your role will involve supporting the organisation’s mission to safeguard our staff from various security threats and risks that arise from operating at the nexus of human rights and technology. This position offers a dynamic work environment supporting a diverse team of over 130+ people in 35+ countries.
The Security Officer works with team members across all arms, and reports through the Global Risk & Operations Manager.
Assist in the creation and maintenance of essential documentation, including country reports, newsletters, risk analysis spreadsheets, briefing papers, emergency protocols, and other security related policies or processes.
Participate and support the development of comprehensive risk assessments for office locations, country-specific situations, or individual staff members.
Provide logistical support for staff travel and event participation, including RightsCon, while addressing travel-related risks and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
Support the Security & Technology team in any other projects designed to support the organisation's security needs, such as training or presentation development, procurement of services, network development, or other consultations that may be required.
Assists in the global implementation of the annual RightsCon summit series
Performs other duties as assigned
A keen interest in international human rights, and familiarity with Access Now’s mission
Engagement in international relations or security studies, either academically or through relevant work experience, or other demonstrated enthusiasm for security operations
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential
Cultural competence and sensitivity, and the ability to communicate and connect effectively with Access Now’s globally-dispersed Team Members
Intuitive and insightful in working with Team Members and senior leaders
Strong project management and organizational skills
Ability to synthesize and present data for interpretation and action
Attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple and competing priorities and deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Ability to work independently and remotely
Fluency in English is required. Spanish, Arabic, French, or another language is very welcome
This is a full-time position, with preference for Africa, Latin America, and Europe (Belgium, Germany). The successful candidate must possess the right to work in the location in which they will be based. At this time most Access Now Team Members are working through hybrid office arrangements, combining remote at-home work with intermittent use of offices and/or co-working spaces.

$2,610.90-$3,220.65 USD gross monthly (Costa Rica)
€4,577.00-€5,607.00 EUR gross monthly (Germany)
$1,850.00-$2,300 USD gross monthly (Kenya)
$4,557.00-$5,924.00 USD gross monthly (United States)
